More is more when it comes to earring stacks! As you add more piercings to your ears, you have more opportunities to add fun, playful earrings that will not only dress up your lobes, but frame your face.
However, with more earrings also comes more questions. My customers always wonder if there’s a formula or correct way to layer hoops, dangles, studs, and more. The only real rule is to stack your earrings in a way that feels right to you, but, over the years, I’ve come up with a few tips that guide me as I choose my earrings each day.
Here’s what I’ve learned and what you can use to help pick the perfect pairings for your earring stack.

1. Choose a Standout Earring
Not every earring can be the star. It’s best to choose one standout that will steal the show in your earring stack, and let the other earrings fall into line around it. Typically, this will be the earring at the bottom of your lobe, but it doesn’t have to be. If you have a climber earring towards the top, that could be your centerpiece.

2. Scale down as you go up
Place the biggest earring closest to your face, then get smaller as you climb up the ear.
3. Mix Metals
Don’t be afraid to mix silver and gold in your earring stack! These two can add more visual interest and contrast than a monochromatic metal stack. You can even mix finishes, pairing a polished silver next to a brushed gold.

4. Stack on the Sparkle
An all-metal stack is always classic, particularly for a more casual look, but adding just a touch of sparkle will give the layers more texture and impact. Include a small diamond stud, reach for a sapphire hoop, or add a go-to earring in your birthstone.
5. Create Movement and Contrast with Weight
Delicate studs and bold hoops play side-by-side in the most interesting earring stacks. By contrasting the weight of your earrings, you’ll create movement that makes for a more visually impactful stack.

6. Get Artsy with Asymmetry
There’s no rule that says your earrings have to match! Your two lobes can have different styles, giving your earring stack an artsy, unexpected look. Try a chain dangle on one side and a bold gemstone dangle on the other. It’s all about playing with your jewelry collection and having fun.
7. Top it Off with an Ear Cuff
If you don’t have a helix piercing, you can still add interest to the top of your ear. Put an ear cuff on one of your ears for an edgy element that adds a finished edge to your earring stack.
